Luisa Lancaster Participates in Fundraising Walk to Prevent Suicide

The organizes fundraising walks to raise both awareness and resources to fund research, educational programs, and support survivors of suicide loss.

This year nearly 200,000 people will be walking in 350 cities across the country, and MA student Luisa Lancaster will be one of these people. Luisa and her family will participate in San Jose's "Out of the Darkness" walk this Sunday, September 20. Visit the website to learn more about these fundraising walks and to get involved!

Jennifer Fowler in the California Psychologist

Jennifer Fowler, MA, who is completing her second year in the Doctor of Psychology program at the 91¾«Æ·, wrote an article, "When Pain Trumps Productivity: Managing Chronic Pain in the Workplace" for The California Psychologist. Jennifer was the CPAGS Student Representative for Division III (Industrial and Organizational Psychology) and the article was the Division's contribution to the Summer edition of the journal.

The article focuses on the issues that arise when chronic pain is introduced in the workplace and how psychologists can assist their patients with the management of chronic pain within a work setting. The article can be found in The California Psychologist. To become a member of CPA click here: ?

Six 91¾«Æ· Students Elected to California Psychological Association of Graduate Students (CPAGS) Executive Council

91¾«Æ· students are extremely well represented on the recently elected CPAGS Executive Council, leading the way in advocacy and broader community involvement. CPAGS is the graduate student division of the California Psychological Association, supporting students in their development as leaders in, and advocates for the field of psychology.

The six new 91¾«Æ· 2015/2016 CPAGS Executive Council members are:

Eric A. Samuels, 4th-year 91¾«Æ· PsyD student, currently serves as the 2015 chair of CPAGS. The 91¾«Æ· community takes pride in congratulating all of this year's elected CPAGS officers.

91¾«Æ· PsyD Commencement Held on Sunday, June 7, 2015

Forty-nine students graduating with doctoral degrees from the 91¾«Æ· in the past academic year were honored at the Commencement Ceremony on Sunday, June 7, 2015. Following the welcome and opening remarks from President Peter Dybwad, JD, and Dean Gilbert Newman, PhD, respectively, the commencement address was delivered by Lonnie Snowden,PhD.

Dr. Snowden is a professor in the Graduate School at the University of California, Berkeley's School of Public Health. He also serves as a faculty member of the Robert Wood Johnson Health and Society Scholars Program at the University of California San Francisco-UC Berkeley, and in the Health Services and Policy Analysis PhD Program at UC Berkeley. Dr. Snowden is an affiliated professor in the UC Berkeley Department of Psychology.

Grace Kiriakos, MA, who is completing her second year in the Doctor of Psychology program at the 91¾«Æ·, contributed to the article, "Maximizing Effectiveness Trials in PTSD and SUD Through Secondary Analysis: Benefits and Limitations Using the National Institute on Drug Abuse Clinical Trials Network 'Women and Trauma" Study as a Case Example" for the Journal of Substance Abuse Treatment (JSAT).
